Our Materials

Every Myrth piece begins with our proprietary clay body, developed through rigorous in-house formulation. Our custom porcelain recipe delivers restaurant-grade durability against chipping and cracking, along with superior heat retention to keep food perfectly warm. We wear-test every clay recipe to ensure lasting durability—using pieces in our own home and giving dishes to restaurants to prove their performance in real kitchens.

Our glazes are created from scratch, starting with base recipes we've developed in-house, then tinkering with color and surface finish. This process takes countless micro-batches and innumerable firing tests to produce the results we're after. We continually retest our core glazes to ensure consistency and a refined finish. Due to this customization, Myrth glazes are truly unique to our studio.

To create both our clay and glazes we use a range of standard ceramic minerals and clays. Our recipes do not contain toxic ingredients such as lead or cadmium—which you don't want in your dishes, and we don't want to handle in the studio.

Myrth glazes have been carefully designed to be timeless shades that complement your space for many years. Our color palette evolves slowly, with core colors running for roughly two years so you have time to mindfully build your collection. Occasionally, materials shortages may reduce a glaze's run. Seasonal colors are also available on a rolling basis.

Designed for the demands of hospitality, all our ceramics are dishwasher and microwave-safe. Our glazes are engineered for everyday use and built to last. Over time, marks left by silverware may form on the glaze surface. These marks can be removed by buffing with powdered cleansers like Bon Ami on a damp sponge or Scotch-Brite pad.
