New & improved dinnerware is here.

Dinner and Appetizer Plates in Sienna

Over the past 7 months we have been quietly, yet doggedly working on a major upgrade to dinnerware. With the help of new studio equipment we have improved our dinnerware with truer form, a reduction in weight, and subtle but impactful design refinements. This is a major step forward for Myrth and we are happy to say this is our finest dinnerware to date!

Basso Bowls in Cream, Sungold, & Sienna

Since the inception of Myrth our mission has been to make the highest quality tableware possible. To take the next step up in this journey we installed a new forming machine at the tail end of last summer. You can see it below. This is a roller jigger and it’s how we make our plates and bowls, moreover it helps us to make our dinnerware more efficiently and with improved quality over our previous smaller equipment. The learning curve on this guy was a bit steep but by the end of the year (holiday rush notwithstanding) we had it producing plates and bowls. Here we are in March and our inventory of individual plates and bowls is back and all are ready to ship again. Plus all made to order sets will be comprised of our new and improved items.

The Process of Refining Our Dinnerware Designs

With new machinery comes new molds and a golden opportunity for us to refine our product designs for improved quality and ease in manufacturing. Of course we jumped on this and all of our tableware items have been improved with truer form, effortless function, and next level durability. Sound easy, but it was quite the project.

We started from the ground up, redesigning our clay recipe for use in the new machine. This required testing many rounds of recipes till we had the right one that performed exactly how we wanted. With the porcelain ready we moved to the products. Each of our dinnerware items starts as a 3D file in Solidworks. With great precision so as not to stray to far from our current design, we evolved the design of each item for better form conformation and ease of use. This translated to moving design lines a few millimeters this way or that, nit picky stuff but so important to us.

The new designs were then translated to plaster molds that we would use on the new forming machine, all of which we made in the months before the roller arrived.

Dinnerware Improvements

The plates and bowls coming off the new machine are truly the best products we have ever made. While they look nearly the same and will match any existing Myrth you have in your kitchen, the design changes are very impactful in performance.Let’s dive into how each item has been refined.

Dinner & Appetizer Plates

Each plate now weighs approximately 10% less compared to its predecessor, and stacks more evenly. The rim is lifted about 1/8” to better contain sauces and make the plate easier to pick up from the table. We’ve also accentuated the inset face detail line of the Dinner Plate for a crisper appearance.

Basso, Tasting, and Feast Bowls

Each bowl now weighs approximately 10% less compared to its predecessor, stacks more evenly and nests tighter for more efficient storage and shorter stacks of bowls. The wobble in the rim has been removed and they have an more level appearance.

The Morsel Plate and Helping Bowl will be updated and relaunched this summer summer.

A note on Made to Order

We will be bidding farewell to Made to Order individual items and we aim to always have our single tableware items in-stock. Full sets will remain be MTO.
