A New Creative Chapter: An Update on Myrth's Glazes
Big changes are coming to Myrth Ceramics this fall, and we couldn't be more excited to share what we've been working on behind the scenes. In October, we'll be launching a brand new collection of glazes, marking a new direction for our porcelain tableware brand. The debut of our new color palette also means that our current, beloved glazes will be officially retiring.
By October, you will no longer find Cream, Glacier, Tempest, Sungold, Sienna, and Ivy in our collection. For those who have been building sets or collecting individual pieces, we wanted to give you advance warning and the opportunity to add to your collection before these legacy colors are permanently retired. You can order Made to Order dinnerware sets until September 14th. Individual items will likely be available until early October, when we debut our new colors.
The Why: A Technical Transformation
The decision to change our entire color palette wasn't a small one—we've been working on this for over a year. This creative shift is the final phase of a much larger technical project: reducing our firing temperature to Cone 5. For us ceramic designers, this means a lower target temperature for our pieces. This change brings several significant benefits to our process, our craft, and ultimately, our customers.
Increased Production: A lower firing temperature reduces our firing cycle times, allowing us to increase our overall production output.
Sustainability: Less energy is consumed with each firing, making our process more sustainable and reducing wear and tear on our kilns.
Wider Color Palette: This is the most exciting part! A high firing temperature burns out certain colors, limiting our options. At a lower temperature, we can access a much greater range of shades and hues. Our new creative direction will unlock a wider spectrum of possibilities beyond the browns, golds, blues, and greens we have been limited to.

For our fellow studio potters out there, you're probably thinking, what about the clay? Yes, a lower firing temperature meant we had to completely redesign our porcelain recipe. We spent months rigorously testing and sampling new formulations to ensure our new clay body maintains the same stellar durability and luxurious qualities as our current one. Only after our clay was perfected could we begin developing the new glazes.
Introducing a New Creative Direction
So, what can you expect from the new colors launching in October? Our new palette will be sophisticated and rich, with a slightly more neutral base, complemented by intriguing texture plays and seasonal pop colors. While we can’t share the exact hues just yet—we are still in the final development phase—we are excited to give you some sneak peeks in the coming weeks. We’ll be sharing more of the behind-the-scenes process with you, starting with a retrospective of our current glazes and the journey toward the new collection.
Your Final Invitation
Until then, the next 7 weeks is your last chance to shop the retiring colors of our durable porcelain dinnerware sets and serveware before we launch new colors in early October. It's the perfect time to add a few final pieces to your collection, stock up on extras to cover future accidental breakage, or scoop up a Myrth legacy color before it's gone forever in early October.
